3 Ways to Install the Google Plus One Button in WordPress, and the Method that I Use

Google has released its Plus 1 button, its answer to its rival Facebook’s “Like button”google plus one logo o 3 Ways to Install the Google Plus One Button in Wordpress, and the Method that I Use

It seems that Google wants to start to learn not only what we are searching but what we like when we search, as I don’t think that Facebook is sharing any of that valuable data with them.

The plus one button will start appearing on websites and in search engine results for users to be recommend content to friends by pushing the plus one button, and Google has stated that they will be including this in their search engine algorithm. So it is highly advised that you install the Google Plus One Button on Your WordPress Website as soon as possible.

But how to do that you ask?  Well I’m about to show you…

3 Different Methods on How to Install the Google Plus One Button on Your WordPress Website.

Method #1:  Install the Google Plus One Button Manually

This is more than likely the hardest way but I’m going to show you how to do it anyway.

First off, go to the Google Webmaster Tools Website and Login.  In order to do this you’ll have to have a Google Account, if you don’t have one, and I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t get one by simply going the Google Account Sign Up Page.

That being said, if you don’t know how to sign up for Google Web Master tools I’ll be covering that in an upcoming post.

To install the Google Plus One button for you site go to the Google Web Master Tools Plus One Button.

You can do a quick search for this or you can clicking the link below:

Upon which you will be brought to a page that looks like this:

You’ll want to copy the code and paste that into the header.php file of the theme that you are using.

This is easily accomplished with the Headway theme by simply pasting the code in the Custom Box of the Headway theme.

However, you’ll have to use CSS to configure where you want the button to be displayed, so if you’re a CSS whiz then have at ‘er.

However, for the rest of use, this simply will not do.  Hence moving forward to the second option, using a plugin.

Method #2:  Using a WordPress Google Plus One Button Plugin.

It didn’t take long for some programmers to write, launch and deploy a Google Plus One WordPress Plugin.

I’ve done a search of the WordPress Plugin directory and would recommend this plugin for you to use:

Google Plus One WordPress Plugin

Upon clicking the link above you will be brought to this page:

This plugin has many robust features and gives you several different button configurations to choose from as well as the option to display the button on the home page, pages or posts.

In addition you can configure the plugin to display before your content posts, after your content posts or both.

I don’t use this plugin myself but have installed in on a test site to test and it looks to me that everything is working properly.

However, it is not my choice of method to install the Google Plus One button on my WordPress site.

Read on to discover what I use.

Method #3 Use the Ultimate Social Sharing Plugin, The Digg Digg WordPress Plugin

You can read about the plugin on the WordPress Plugin Directory by clicking the link below.

The Digg Digg plugin not only allows you to implement the Google Plus One Button on to your WordPress Website but also the ability to install many other sharing tools as well such as a retweet button, a Facebook Share Button, a Stumble Upon Button, a Linked In Button and many, many more.

Not only can you configure which buttons to display and where but you can also have a floating button that moves up and down as the users scrolls your content and will give them the ability to share your content at any point when reading your pages or posts (depending on how you configure it that is).

In my humble opinion this plugin is the best means for installing not only the Google Plus One Button (as I installed it earlier today with the click of a button) on to your WordPress Website but also other popular sharing buttons that I mentioned earlier in this post.

So what method have you chosen to install the Google Plus One Button and are you using it yet?

Please feel free to post a comment below to let me know or if you have any question on how to install it you can ask a question in the comments as well.
